Do you have a passion for snorkeling? In Thailand you are in the right place! You must know, in fact, that this location is very popular for this kind of activity which, unlike diving with oxygen cylinders, requires much simpler equipment and is therefore also suitable for those who are not particularly accustomed to the most extreme sports: precisely because it is a very popular activity in Thailand, here you will find many seaside resorts that allow you to practice this sport and also many places where you can buy or rent suitable equipment.
Unlike diving, the tools you need for snorkeling are simple and easy to find: all you need is a snorkel and fins, to be able to swim quickly and lightly, and to observe the seabed and marine fauna while remaining always on the surface.
As it is easy to guess, a place full of beaches like Thailand offers many viewing perspectives. However, precisely because there are so many seaside resorts available, it’s always convenient to know the best ones, in order to have the best to practice this fascinating sport: the best are those that allow you to have complete observation perspectives, but also those that you can reach easily if you are on a motorcycle.
In this guide we have decided to provide some tips on this wonderful activity and to collect the most beautiful and most easily accessible beaches if you are on a motorbike. In fact, very often when looking for information on the most beautiful seaside resorts, we forget to take useful information, which could be fundamental for the success of the holiday: for example, few people know that not all beaches are the same and not all are suitable perfect for snorkeling, which is different from diving.
If you want to snorkel, in fact, you must necessarily opt for beaches that have calm waters: in fact, if there are strong currents there is the risk of not seeing the seabed well, since, unlike diving, this activity does not it takes place in deep waters but must be done directly on the surface (in fact, no oxygen cylinders are used but simpler equipment such as fins and snorkels). Furthermore, if you are not skilled swimmers, it is always good to prefer shallow waters or where the bottom is visible even near the shore: moreover, if you are close to the shore, the bottom is more visible as it is more illuminated (for this reason, however, we recommend preferring a sunny day).
If you want to have an indelible memory of this activity, it’s good to bring an underwater camera with you, but be careful: the rule of “look but dont touch touch” applies, because corals and marine species are protected and must be respected. So, this means that you can’t take anything on the seabed with you.
These are the useful rules you need to know to make this experience truly unforgettable.
Here, however, is a selection of beaches that can be for you if you want to snorkel (in this regard, it is good to remember that it is always recommended to choose locations that are not too touristy and not too sought after, because crowding would make you lose the magic).
• Koh Tao: this beach offers a breathtaking view, and is also easily accessible by scooter. In fact, it is located near the more famous Koh Samui, and is particularly known for having shallow waters (which can be observed near the shore and therefore also in a safer way) with many fish and corals.
- Koh Samui: this is a beautiful area, which certainly offers many shops to buy or rent equipment to carry out this activity. However, we do not recommend stopping here to snorkel, but to prefer less crowded and touristy beaches: the smaller and more isolated locations are the best for doing this activity.
- Coral Cove: although it is a tourist beach, known and therefore also very popular, this location is particularly recommended because it offers very interesting perspectives, with a very rich fauna (there are, in fact, many varieties of fish and corals). So, you can snorkel here, as long as you do it by 10 am.
- Archipelago of the Surin Islands: it is located about 130 km north of Phuket, and is one of the most recommended places if you want to snorkel, as it has one of the richest and most enchanting depths in Thailand. Not surprisingly, it is a recognized national marine park: the place par excellence where you can see the beautiful coral reef.
- Similan Islands: they are a must if you want to immerse yourself in a true marine paradise, where you can see evocative breathtaking landscapes. The islands are located about 70 km from Phuket and offer several beaches and coasts.
- Koh Bangu: this seaside resort offers an interesting perspective, which takes the name of Christmas Point. Here you can observe sea anemones, corals and starfish, but also beautiful colorful tropical fish and, unmissable, sea turtles.
