Getting around by scooter in a place like Thailand can be a captivating solution, for several reasons: if you love adventure and want to live an experience dedicated to road trips, surely this is the right choice because it allows you to fully experience an unforgettable vacation! Furthermore, if you choose to travel by motorcycle, you will be able to optimize both time and money, having the opportunity to feel truly free from any constraints: in fact, if you decide to move on foot you should necessarily depend on public transport or more expensive taxis for reach some areas, or give them up, and this would be a real shame!

If you do not want to depend on anyone you want to feel autonomous and free, arriving quickly in the places you have set out to visit, you must absolutely take this choice into consideration: also consider that moving by motorcycle is also an excellent solution against city traffic, aspect not to be underestimated especially if you are on vacation and do not have many days to visit everything!

However, it can be very useful to plan some aspects, for example knowing the things that should not be missing if you have chosen this possibility: traveling in total freedom and autonomy is nice, but don’t forget the pleasure of not being caught unprepared by a downpour, or by an empty tank! So here’s what you need to know if you travel by motorbike!

The first thing (the most important) is to make sure you have the right documentation: travel insurance, and an international driving license must not be missing, along with the passport that the rental company will certainly require before renting you a scooter. If you do not have these documents and you are stopped by the police, the risk of fines and penalties could be very high, so if you want to sleep peacefully and travel peacefully, you need to inform yourself in advance about the necessary documentation to be in compliance: also a reading of the highway code can be very useful to prepare you and to support you in terms of safety and serenity. Furthermore, in this regard it is also important to know that driving without a helmet is sanctioned: therefore, not only is it illegal, but it can be very dangerous for you and your passenger to be without a helmet, which can protect not only from accidents but also from dust, sand or insects. Make sure you bring it!

Once you have considered the basics, it might be useful to know that there are some objects that can help you to live your travel experience in the most comfortable way possible. We therefore recommend that you bring the following things with you:

  • Suitable shoes: although it is very hot and although the holiday climate leads to choose open shoes (such as flip flops), these are not the right shoes. Better to opt for closed, comfortable and waterproof footwear: this way you will always have maximum protection both in the event of a downpour and during maneuvers in intense traffic.
  • Sun cream (and that one against sunburn): they are both very important. Especially at certain peak times, the sun can be very strong and can burn your face and arms – it’s best to protect yourself.
  • Umbrella and raincoat: you can always put a small umbrella inside the motorbike seat, so it can be useful in some rainy moments. However, the best choice (which also allows you to keep your hands free) is to opt for a raincoat, which you can also wear while driving.
  • Small backpack: a small bag is the best choice if you are on a motorcycle, because it is not too heavy and has small dimensions. In this way, you can be sure that you have the essentials with you, such as water and a map of the city, two other objects that must never be missing.
